More netizens called out Rodis for his smugness and refusal to take down his post.
On 8 January, Daily Tribune Online reported that Rodis’ claim was fake news and sent the link directly to his Facebook page. It was unclear where Nemenzo - an editor of US-based online magazine Positively Filipino - got her information that the protester was Abay. Netizens immediately corrected Rodis, including his friends, notably National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) chair Nonoy Espina, who pointed out that Rodis’ claim about Abay - a Filipino singer-songwriter and Philippine resident - was a grave error, a damaging lie.īut Rodis stood his ground, saying the identity of the protester came from Gemma Nemenzo.
